Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell is an American television journalist anchor and commentator for NBC News based in Washington D.C. Growing up within New York City, Mitchell obtained a bachelor's degree in English literature at the University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell was hired by KYW Radio and TV as the Philadelphia reporter in 1967. In 1976, she was a CBS affiliate WDVM-TV. (then WTOP in Washington DC). In Washington, she was appointed general reporter by NBC News two year later. The year 1981 saw her begin working for the White House and became chief congressional correspondent in 1988. Then, in 1992 she was named chief White House Correspondent and in 1994 chief foreign affairs reporter of NBC News. Mitchell is a regular on the TV news show Meet the Press as a panelist and host. Mitchell was a panelist at the 1988 debates between George Bush & Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is the wife of Alan Greenspan a former chairman the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell was awarded numerous honors for her journalism achievements, such as an award called the Goldsmith Career Award from John F. Kennedy School of Government in 2005. Mitchell was also awarded with the Leonard Zeidenberg Award from the Radio-Television News Directors Association in 2004. Mitchell reported on the White House first for NBC News between 1981 and 1988 in the two years that Ronald Reagan served as president. She covered a wide range of noteworthy stories including arms control the budget tax reform and the Iran-contra scandal and traveled extensively with the President Reagan for summits with Mikhail Gorbachev and other world heads.
